Helping The Homeless
16-year-old Megan Johnson is the founder of "Megan's Mission", a project aimed at helping the homeless. She holds fundraisers selling cookies, hot chocolate and apple cider outside her Federal Way, Washington home to raise money for materials to make scarfs and blankets and to purchase socks and gloves for those living on Seattle's streets. When cold weather hits, Megan joined by her family hit the streets of Seattle to deliver these items to Seattle's homeless.

From her fundraising efforts, Megan donates to the following organizations: $100 a month to Firstplace, a school for homeless & at-risk kids $100 a month to Childhaven, a facility that helps drug babies and small children $600 a year to Fusion, an organization that helps women with children affected by domestic violence
In addition Megan donates blankets to facilities that need them for the homeless Her project "Kids Helping Kids" (started in 2001) has helped distribute over 2300 videos to hospitalized children. Megan and her Scout Troop were honored by the American Red Cross for their project. |
